Among the services offered, we highlight: bibliographic switching, bibliographic survey of specific subjects, cataloging at source, normalization of publications, exchange and donation with registered national and foreign institutions, publications loans and guidance to users.
The Central Library provides assistance services to the Viçosa campus sectoral libraries as well as to the Libraries of the Florestal and Paranaíba river campuses. It provides users more than 1,500 study/research posts, which include individual and group rooms, video conferencing room, special collections, rare construction collections, multimedia, mapoteca, video room, space for high school and elementary school , space for leisure reading, space for research to databases and electronic journals, hall for various exhibitions and an auditorium. Its attributions are selection, acquisition, classification, cataloging, organization, storage, conservation, restoration, availability and dissemination of various sources of information to its users.
Consultation of the Central Library collection and UFV sectoral libraries is made by Online catalog. The system allows for title, author or subject consultations, as well as combinations between the research fields using keywords and delimiting (“e”, “or”, “no” or “next”). It also allows specifications through content filters, such as language, item format, publication date, among others.
The program has a sectoral library whose collection is made up of books, national and international journals, theses and dissertations. In recent years a major investment in the acquisition of books and periodicals has been made. The collection currently has 10,408 units, related to the areas of Social Work, Social Policy, Political Science, Economics, History, Geography, Law, Administration, Social Sciences, Anthropology, Research Methodology, Human Development, Sociology, Social Research, Education, Education, Statistics, Psychology and Public Policies.
Reference research is computerized and can be performed through 4 microcomputers. It is important to emphasize that one of the main sources of resources for the enrichment of the bibliographic collection has been the Minas Gerais State Research Support Foundation (Fapemig), which, through a notice for the acquisition of bibliographic material has acquired in recent years, several national and imported works. In addition, several publishers have sent publications for appreciation, as well as exchanged publications, which has helped keep the collection up to date.
